One fascinating thing about the drum kit is how you can perceive multiple things at once -- movements, rhythms, and the passage of time. This fun little segment demonstrates how fast and slow are a matter of perception: although the ride cymbal is playing slowly, (basically an eighth-note swung ride cymbal pattern) the left hand and feet are moving quickly (playing 32-note triplets). Each is moving at different speeds, but they both fill the same space in time. This groove shows how drums allow you to bend perception. Plus, it sounds cool and is fun to play!
